The Israeli response to October 7th is disproportionate since many more innocent Palestinian civilians are dying

The Israeli Response

  • Death tolls are not a measurement of proportionality. Using the notion that proportionality means the Israeli response should be at an equal scale to the attacks of Hamas, then the Israeli response would entail targeted rape, kidnapping, torture, beheadings, and mutilation of Gazan civilians.
  • The number of reported civilian deaths in Gaza should be taken with a grain of salt. It took more than a week for Israel, an organized and progressive nation, to reach an estimated death toll from the October 7th massacre, and that number continues to change. In contrast, hundreds of 'confirmed' deaths are reported from Gaza daily, released by the Health Ministry which is itself controlled by the terrorist organization Hamas.
  • Hamas notoriously operates from within civilians. During the current ground operations, the IDF has presented proof of countless rocket launchers and ammunition storages embedded within youth centers, schools, and hospitals.
  • In World War 2, hundreds of thousands of civilians died during the collapse of the Nazi regime by the allied forces. Using the notion that proportionality of response is exclusively rooted in death tolls, then the destruction of the Nazi regime was unjust.
  • Hamas continues to fire rockets at densely populated civilian areas daily. Israeli civilians are protected by bomb shelters and more importantly, the Iron Dome. Otherwise, death tolls would be much higher on the Israeli side.

There will be a 2nd, 3rd, 4th October 7th - Hamas senior spokesman

Conclusions

The fact that more Palestinians are dying at this phase of the war does not mean that the Israeli response is unjust or disproportionate.
